Sound is something that humans and other living creatures percieve with their ears short hear.There are also humans/creatures that are death, so they can´t hear anything. These people need to communicate with their hands, or something else.

People that can hear use a telephone ore cell phone to communicate with family/friends if they are not standing before you. Really modern are things like skype on the computer,where you can see the face and talk with them...
